SUBCLASS 600 – Visitor Visa (Tourist Stream)

The Visitor Visa Subclass 600 allows individuals to visit Australia for tourism, family visits, or business purposes. There are different streams within this visa to cater to specific travel needs.


Streams under Subclass 600:

  • Tourist Stream:
     
    • Purpose: For individuals traveling to Australia for tourism, visiting family or friends, or attending events.
       
    • Eligibility: Applicants must show they are genuine visitors and intend to stay temporarily. They must also prove they have sufficient funds for the trip and the intention to return home after the visit.
       
    • Duration: Can be granted for 3, 6, or 12 months, depending on the purpose of the visit and the applicant’s situation.
       
  • Business Visitor Stream:
     
    • Purpose: For individuals visiting Australia for short-term business purposes (e.g., attending meetings, conferences, or negotiations).
       
    • Eligibility: Must demonstrate the purpose of the visit is strictly for business-related activities and not for employment.
       
    • Duration: Typically up to 3 months.
       
  • Family Sponsored Stream:
     
    • Purpose: For individuals visiting family members who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.
       
    • Eligibility: Must be sponsored by an eligible family member who is a permanent resident or citizen of Australia.
       
    • Duration: Similar to the Tourist Stream, typically 3, 6, or 12 months.
       

Key Features:

  • Processing Time: Varies but generally takes between a few days to a few weeks.
     
  • Visa Conditions: No work rights, but holders can study for up to 3 months.

SUBCLASS 602 – Medical Treatment Visa

The Subclass 602 Visa is designed for individuals who wish to travel to Australia for medical treatment or to support a patient undergoing medical treatment.


Key Features:

  • Purpose: To allow individuals to travel to Australia to receive medical treatment or to accompany someone receiving treatment (as a support person).
     
  • Eligibility: Applicants must provide evidence of the medical treatment they need and that they meet the health requirements. This visa can also be granted to a person accompanying someone undergoing treatment.
     
  • Duration: This visa can be granted for up to 12 months depending on the treatment needed. The visa is usually linked to the duration of the medical treatment.
     
  • Conditions: The holder must comply with health requirements, and work rights are not granted under this visa.

SUBCLASS 771 – Transit Visa

The Subclass 771 Transit Visa allows individuals to pass through Australia on their way to another destination, usually when they are just transiting through the country and have no intention of staying.

Key Features:

  • Purpose: To allow travelers to transit through Australia while on their way to another country.
     
  • Eligibility:
     
    • Must hold a valid ticket to continue traveling to another country.
       
    • Must remain in Australia only for the purpose of transit and for no longer than 72 hours.
       
    • The visa is typically used by travelers on long-haul flights where they must stop in Australia for a short period before continuing to their final destination.
       
  • Duration: Generally granted for up to 72 hours.
     
  • Work Rights: No work rights under this visa.

SUMMARY OF DEFFERENCE

Subclass 600 (Visitor Visa): Ideal for tourism, visiting family, or short business trips. Duration ranges from 3 months to 12 months.
 

Subclass 602 (Medical Treatment Visa): For individuals needing medical treatment in Australia, including those accompanying patients. Duration is typically up to 12 months, depending on treatment needs.
 

Subclass 771 (Transit Visa): For travelers passing through Australia on their way to another country. Duration is generally up to 72 hours, with no work rights.
